Today I received and unboxed my purple cork bow tie from Brainbows based in Belgium. On top of all the LEGO® bow ties I create, I also buy and wear unusual and funky bow ties that complement the rest of the craziness. And this cool cork bow tie is the latest addition to my collection.
Now, I already mentioned Brainbows and their bow ties in my previous article about handmade bow tie creators in Europe. If you haven’t read that, do check it out later.
I did have cork bow ties on my “you really need to get one of these for your collection” list for some time so I decided to make that list smaller. It was an even bigger sign for me to get the bow tie when I saw they had them in purple as well.
The packaging was really nice with black paper covering everything and upon removing it I found also some sweets, a custom coaster and 2 booklets with existing and new collections. Will definitely be using that coaster.
Now on to the bow tie. I was not sure what to expect from cork as a material. My knowledge of cork comes from wine bottles or some surfaces in offices or conference / workshop rooms. So I expected the bow tie to be rigid and inflexible. Boy was I off on this one. The bow tie is surprisingly light and the material feels delicate without feeling fragile. Also, way smoother than what I know of cork.
The even cooler part is you can remove the “belt” in the center to flip the bow tie around depending on whether you want the bow tie to display a single or a double fold pleat. Swapping the pleat? I find that neat!
One more detail to consider is that you can also order bow ties that have patterns or models either stitched or “tattooed” (engraved or inscribed) on the bow tie giving you even more options to craft your individually personalised neck accessory.
Check out the unboxing video below and definitely check out Brainbows Bow Ties to see the even cooler specimens, like their stitch or tattoo collections.
And of course, have a crazy day!
