I love bow ties and the batwing bow tie is no exception. However, I do have one annoying detail bugging me when it comes to the batwing bow tie: the name and the look don’t seem to be related. To clarify what I am talking about, let’s have a look first at a bat in flight or the general shape of a bat and its wings:

Batwing Bow Tie Bat Flying
Batwing Bow Tie Bat Shape

As we can clearly see, the wings of the bat have wonderful organic shapes which also reveal some of the skeletal structure. And regardless of how one would decide to describe the shape of their wings, rectangular or straight would not really be the at the top or middle of the list of possibilities.

Now let’s have a look at the current batwing bow tie and pointed batwing bow tie shapes, made of course from LEGO® bricks.

Classic Batwing Bow Tie
Pointed Batwing Bow Tie

Where. Is. The. Bat? There is not bat or bat wings or batwing at all in either of the current batwing bow tie shapes. Straight wing might have made more sense but as it stands, the name of these bow ties and their actual shapes and styles could not be farther from each other.

So I decided that we should fix this. We should evolve the concept and bring in new styles and options that come much closer to the actual name that was given to these bow ties. And of course, getting creative is a lot easier when creating bow ties using LEGO® parts.

So after a bit of research, a lot of playing around and a few cups of coffee later, here is what I came up with.

True Batwing Bow Tie From LEGO parts

New Bow Ties From LEGO bricks in the shop!

Although not the first batwing creation, this to me is the True Batwing Bow Tie. It looks like a bat and is elegant enough to be worn as a bow tie. The wing parts also carry over the visible skeletal structure from the bat wings that I mentioned before. I also love the small number of parts needed to create this lovely specimen.

This particular bow tie is already available to buy in the shop so do check it out!.

Batwing Butterfly Bow Tie

Next up, I used these fins / wing tail parts to recreated the points of a bat’s wings on each side. However, we now get a cross between a batwing and butterfly shape. Behold the batwing butterfly bow ties, in black or black and gold.

Batwing Bow Tie With Bat Hero Sign and Dragon Wings

Another simple and minimalist take on the batwing bow tie. This time however the concept uses smaller dragon wing parts with a bat hero sign in the middle. I personally love the organic edge of the bow tie given by the four wings.

Bat Hero Sign And Hexagonal wings Bow Tie

And since we already started playing around with the bat superhero sign, why not go a step further and mix it up. It has a bat (sort of), it has wings, mix it up and you get… drumroll… hexagonal batwing bow tie in black and yellow. This cool bow tie will be available soon in the shop.

Batwing Double Wing Space Fighter Bow Tie

Sorry but not sorry. Since I had already strayed off the beaten path, I decided to go all out and mix it up a bit. So what happens when you combine space wars and bat wings? Why, you get a double winged batwing space fighter bow tie of course! Very likely piloted by a tiny bat pilot to boot!

As you can see, bow ties from LEGO® bricks are great for allowing the bow tie and neckwear concepts to evolve. And hopefully, in time, batwing bow tie will no longer mean just a straight rectangular winged bow.

Enjoy your bow ties, check out the shop for our own batwing specimens and as usual, have a crazy day!
