One way to make a black bow tie stand out from others, apart from the shape of the bow tie, is through different types of bow tie knots.
When attending a black tie event, you will quickly realise that a different shape or material does not really make a black bow tie stand out when dozens of other gentlemen are also trying to get creative.
Now, the black tie dress code says you must use a black tie, but there are no restrictions when it comes to the knot.
Although for classical bow ties there isn’t much variety or options when it comes to the bow tie knots, this is definitely not the case and quite the opposite when we talk about bow ties created with and from LEGO bricks.
To prove the point, here are over 50 types of bow tie knots that you can use or get inspired by when creating your custom bowtie.

For the first 20, I focused on angles and curves when creating the “knots”. Some of the shapes try and mimic the lines and creases of a knot while others embrace the freedom to be creative and provide a more decorative aspect to the central part of the bow.
Afterwards, I went even bolder by taking advantage of the diversity of LEGO parts available. Car grill? Microphones? Bull horns? Straw hat? Axe Head? They all work. Some of them are in gold over black, but you can just use the black equivalents for that black tie event.
And last but not least, more gold on black and black on black types of bow tie knots but also more creative and colorful ones like a tie fighter cockpit part, a Christmas wreath or a droid Minifigure.
And there you have it, already at 55 types of bow tie knots and I can tell you this just barely scratches the surface of what you can do.
With classical bow ties, blac tie events only had so much variety and diversity, mainly through shape and material. With bow ties from LEGO parts however, your options to stand out, even with only one color are endless.
So go out there and have fun while catching everyone’s attention at your next blactie evening. And if you want to wear them proper, do check out the Bow Tie Bleau Shop!
